Feature Description
Why Did the URLs Change?
To comply with the latest browser and security standards, Salesforce recently required that customers deploy enhanced domains. This feature updated the host name formats for the domains that serve Salesforce orgs. To reduce the impact of this change, your previous host names are redirected by default. However, to meet Salesforce security standards, Salesforce is retiring some of the previous domains.
What’s the New Timeline?
To give you more time to test, the deadline for updating references to legacy (non-enhanced) host names has been extended to Spring ’26. Also, Salesforce is decommissioning the service that supports hard-coded references to an instance name in API application traffic routing. That means that all API traffic must use your My Domain login URL. To help you test this change, we introduced a separate release update in Summer ’25.

To help you prepare for these related changes concurrently, Salesforce aligned the end of legacy host name redirections and the end of support for instanced hostnames in API traffic. Both changes are fully enforced in production orgs in Spring ’26, starting in January 2026. When the changes are enforced, the instanced or legacy host names are no longer supported, with no option to reenable the support.

To help you test, API traffic that uses an instanced URL is no longer supported in sandboxes in Winter ’26, starting in August 2025. With that release, you can’t reenable that support in those orgs.

Legacy host name redirections were disabled in all orgs except production and demo orgs in Winter ’25, starting in August 2024. In production and demo orgs, Salesforce automatically disables those redirections in Summer ’25 and in Winter ’26 unless you opt out of that change before your org gets each release. You can enable and disable those redirections until this change is enforced in Spring ’26.
What Else Changed?
These changes were implemented with Winter ’25 patch 9, which was deployed to most production orgs in mid-October 2024. These changes affected only production and demo orgs, because legacy (non-enhanced) host name redirections stopped in Winter ’25 in all other orgs.
  • Redirections for legacy host names are enabled by default (again, in production and demo orgs only).
  • You can disable redirections for the related host names via a My Domain setting, Redirect legacy (non-enhanced) My Domain hostnames. Before October 2024, to disable redirections for legacy host names, you disabled redirections for all previous My Domain host names.
  • Salesforce redirects calls to non-enhanced host names that contain an incorrect instance name only when the corresponding My Domain redirection setting is enabled. Previously, those host names were always redirected but the corresponding calls weren’t logged in the Hostname Redirects event type.
  • The Hostname Redirects Event Type now captures redirections for non-enhanced host names that contain an incorrect instance name.
Why the Changes?
The volume of redirections for legacy host names in production orgs remains high. The changes in October 2024 gave you more control over the affected redirections. And now the Hostname Redirects event type detects previously unknown redirections that require updates. Finally, aligning the change to API traffic routing with the end of legacy host name redirections helps you test those two changes together.
Actions Required
We continue to encourage you to update references to your legacy host names, including instanced URLs.

For instructions, see these release updates: Update References to Legacy Host Names and Use Your Org’s My Domain Login URL in API Calls, which is available in Summer ’25.
